As a person from Florida, I can vouch that the “FloriDada” music video accurately depicts what happens when two people make love anywhere in the state that dangles off America like a heat-seeking phallus. The video features a few aliens embroiled in a love story painted in every color of the psychedelic rainbow, produced and directed by PFFR, a Brooklyn art collective/band/production company. Beyond the wild video, “FloriDada” is a fun, frenetic-paced song that could easily appeal to a kindergarten class at recess as well as a marching band, and hopefully will become a staple at Florida football games. In fact, the video could serve as that Kindergarden class’s first introduction to Sex Ed when they start asking where babies come from.
In case you’re wondering, the song has 431 words and certainly lives up to the “dada” part with lyrics like this:
“Show me the clams
Show me the pearls
Mail me a note
Sent from a world
That isn’t so far
And always right here
Where all the boundaries
Have disappeared
And all the nights
Are stitched with a glue
That’s sticking to me
And I’ll stick to you
I’ll take your hands
You’ll take my face
And everywhere home will
be a good place”
“FloriDada” appears on the new Animal Collective album, “Painting With,” out Feb. 19 on Domino Records. The guys have gone all out on the packaging for their latest release, catering to the needs of the most voracious Animal Collective fans, offering three different album covers, each featuring a different band member on the front. Choose your favorite, Avey Tare, Panda Bear, or Geologist. Plus there’s a 7-inch of bonus songs and crazy zoetropic slipmat included in the deluxe LP edition. What’s zoetropic? In short, magic. When you place the slipmat on a record player and shine a strobe light on it, an animation suddenly reveals itself. The “technology” is actually based on the earliest forms of animation, and surely will impress that person you’re trying to get in bed, if it doesn’t give them a seizure.
